Running...a necessary evil!

For anyone that knows me or of my athletic endeavors, you might be a little surprised to find out that I do not particularly enjoy running. Actually, before last week you would have been more likely to find me digging in at KFC (Yuck!) then running around the block. Coincidentally, my new running route now takes me past KFC every lap. Anyways, over the past two weeks I have gained a certain appreciation for the sport of running as part of my training...but I still refuse to frequent the restaurant!

Last Monday was actually my first "run" since the Pumpkinman Triathlon back in October (2008). Needless to say it was a painful experience. While I thought the 100's of miles on my bike (Trek Y Foil 66) and countless gym sessions would have prepared me for a short 3 mile run, my legs felt otherwise Tuesday morning. However, after several runs, and some instruction from Team in Training Assistant Coach Scott Stone (http://www.westsidetnt.com/fall09/pages/staff_Scott_Stone.html) its become bearable. Actually, after a long day at the office, a nice 4 mile run is ALMOST enjoyable.

Luckily, my brother is also a two time marathon runner, so he always has a ton of tips and inspiring words (Like when he calls me a "pansy!") so the transition into the sport hasn't been too bad. Not to mention, going out to the LA Marathon with him this year helped me score a great deal on some running shoes:

The Asics Kayano 15 (Retail $140, only paid $50 at the LA Marathon convention)
